Funding Advice for Southeast Asian Startups

Clip. Wednesday Jan 17 2018 from Startup Radar

Michael lays it all out:

At SeedPlus we have a triangle that we follow when investing in Southeast Asian startups. Team, market, and strategy. The market has to be big enough. You will see some amazing people with amazing products but no offense to them the market is never going to be that big. Therefore it is not really a venture business, so in those cases, we will pass. However, if they can show that there is a big enough market. Also, we think the team has the pedigree to do it and we like their strategy. Then we will definitely dig in.

Singapore Venture Series – SeedPlus

Clip. Friday Jul 28 2017 from Simmonds Stewart

Tiang got interviewed for the Simmonds Stewart South East Asia blog:

Sarah Yen: The funding boom appears to have slowed. What’s your view?

Tiang: I think it’s a period of rationalisation, and that has a lot to do with the ecosystem maturing. Whilst founders are getting smarter and the quality of startups is rising, the investment community is also learning collectively what works and what doesn’t. Fundamentally venture is about creating long term value, and we tend to look beyond cycles and try to understand the long-term business fundamentals of a company.
